Lauren Hasselman’s first experience at Atria Bell Court Gardens began as a private caregiver many years ago, but she vividly recalls her first impressions.

“Here was this beautiful, historic building. It was filled with so many talented professionals and extraordinary residents. I was in awe – and a little overwhelmed by the environment,” she says. “But I was also inspired. And determined.”

Hasselman recognized Atria Bell Court Gardens as a place where she could thrive. As a private caregiver, she tended to the physical and emotional needs of many residents and developed positive relationships with the staff at the Tucson community.

She also made a strong impression on community leaders, particularly the Executive Director, who kept her name in mind for open positions at the community.

In time, an opportunity presented itself – an administrative role that was tailored to Hasselman’s strengths.

“I got the job. I began learning everything I could about the senior living industry and the residents we serve. That’s what started my trajectory,” she said.

Hasselman was a quick study. Within a year, she was promoted to Community Business Director. And again, the following year, to Senior Community Business Director.

She credits her colleagues – particularly the department directors she’s worked with – for fostering an environment geared toward growth.

“I’m grateful for my directors. Working with them taught me how much planning goes into our success. Each role here influences the next, and there’s so much detail that goes into providing the kind of experience we want residents to enjoy,” Hasselman said.

Years of learning, development and relationship building came to fruition two years ago when she was named Executive Director of Atria Bell Court Gardens.

No longer intimidated by her surroundings, Hasselman now playfully describes herself as an over communicator with the team.

“I pepper my team with messages like ‘Where do we stand on Halloween party prep?’ and ‘Are we on track with a repair in the pool area?’ We stay on the same page that way. It’s a wonderful team built on trust and an understanding that, even if I’m annoying with my questions, we all serve a bigger picture!”

Though her day-to-day duties have changed over the years, Hasselman still defines success much the same as when she started as a private caregiver many years ago.

“In many ways, my role is the same. I’m able to provide support, comfort and safety for those who reside in this amazing community. It’s an incredibly rewarding job. It was as a caregiver, and it continues to be today.”
